About the Author of the Site

Hi — I’m Éloïse Caron, the maker, storyteller and curious eye behind Max the Magician: art, wonder and craft. I explore the alchemy of visual magic, blending painting, illustration, small-scale sculpture and optical play to create work that nudges everyday moments toward the whimsical and the unexpected.

My practice sits at the intersection of image and narrative. I make original artwork, devise hands-on tutorials and design DIY projects that invite people to participate in the creative act. Whether I’m sketching a character that hides a little trick, building a simple mechanical illusion or writing a short visual story, my aim is always the same: to transform ordinary materials into moments of surprise and delight.

I trained in fine art and design, and over the years I’ve taught workshops, collaborated on small exhibitions and worked with makers from different disciplines. I love the technical side of craft — mixing paints, learning new print and collage methods, prototyping paper mechanics — just as much as the storytelling behind each piece. Process matters to me: the sketchbook experiments, the failed attempts that turn into discoveries, and the tiny details that make a piece feel alive.

On this blog I share step-by-step project tutorials, behind-the-scenes glimpses of my studio practice, visual essays and short stories that bring my creations to life. My tutorials are written for curious makers of all levels — I break techniques down into clear steps, suggest affordable materials and encourage playful adaptation so you can make the projects your own.

I’m drawn to materials that are humble and accessible: paper, ink, thread, found objects and simple tools. I also experiment with digital methods, motion tests and hybrid techniques that combine analogue warmth with modern convenience. My toolbox is eclectic because the magic often comes from unexpected combinations.

Beyond how-to guides, I write about the creative mindset: how to notice wonder in everyday life, how to keep curiosity from fading, and how constraints can actually be the engine of invention. I believe that making is a way of seeing the world anew, and that small acts of creativity can re-enchant ordinary routines.

If you’re here to learn, be inspired, or to try something quirky with your hands, you’re in the right place. I love hearing from readers — tell me what you make, ask questions about a tutorial, or suggest a theme you’d like me to explore next. Welcome to Max the Magician: let’s make something wonder-full together.
